Our History

In the early years, founder Nelson Forsburg traveled to job sites by horse and buggy, ensuring customers received the hands-on attention they relied on. Founded in 1891, Forsburg Furnace & Air Conditioning Co., Inc. began as a small, family-owned tin shop serving the needs of a growing community. Originally operating as Lycoming Tin Shop, the business focused on handcrafted tin products, establishing a reputation for quality workmanship and dependable service.

 As the company expanded in both skill and scope, it evolved into Forsburg’s Sheet Metal Shop, offering roofing, spouting, furnaces, and roof painting. The company’s versatility set it apart. Forsburg’s produced handcrafted metal goods such as boats and fishing creels—products that gained recognition beyond the local area when they were featured in the Sears Roebuck and Company catalog around 1923—broadening its role within the community and laying the groundwork for future growth.

By the early 20th century, Forsburg made a natural transition into the heating industry, becoming known as Forsburg’s Furnace Co. (and later Forsburgs’ Furnace Co.), reflecting its growing specialization in central heating systems. During this time, the company installed early furnaces, including those from Holland & Holland, Firewel, Whirlpool, and Luxaire - continuing to expand its expertise. These accomplishments helped establish Forsburg as an innovative and trusted name in the community.

As the company continued to grow, it relocated over time onto 1500 Dewey Ave, then to 2393 Mill Lane, finally resting where it still resides today almost 30 years later at 1920 Mahaffey Lane in Williamsport. The company has transitioned ownership through three families over the years. The Forsburg’s passed the torch onto the Pepperman’s before the Peppermans sold the company to the Beans’.

In 1996, Bill and Karen Bean purchased the company, continuing its legacy while guiding it into a new era of modernization and growth. In 2013, Heather and Joe Mann took ownership, bringing renewed energy while honoring the traditions that built the business. Heather and Joe’s sons: Ryan and Nickolas have now worked for the company for over a decade.



With a history spanning more than a century—older than the internet itself—some early records have been lost to time. However, what remains clear is a consistent story of craftsmanship, resilience, and dedication to the community.

From its earliest days as a tin shop to its evolution into a full-service HVAC provider, Forsburg Furnace & Air Conditioning Co., Inc. has continuously adapted to meet the needs of its customers. From horse-drawn service calls to modern innovations like Carrier Greenspeed Technology and advanced ductless systems, the company has remained a trusted presence in Williamsport for well over a century.

Through changing technologies, leadership, and generations, one thing has remained constant: a commitment to quality workmanship, strong leadership, and a loyal community. These values have allowed Forsburg to remain a productive, respected, and enduring business.
